Emochute: virtual reality at the service of confidence found in seniors

Each year in France, nearly two million elderly people fall. These incidents lead to more than 130,000 hospitalizations and nearly 10,000 deaths. But beyond physical injuries, the psychological consequences are sometimes deeper: loss of confidence, isolation, stress and persistent fear of falling. It is this fear, often invisible but present, that the Emochute program has chosen to attack.

An innovative response to a major issue

Developed by Teleport in In partnership with the Puy-en-Velay CH, Emochute is an innovative therapeutic protocol combining immersive virtual reality and emotional liberation techniques (EFT) . The objective: to durably reduce the fear of falling in seniors and allowing them to find insurance in their movements.

A structured and personalized protocol

The program takes place for five days spread over 3 weeks maximum with daily sessions of 20 to 30 minutes. Each session includes:

  • A relaxation phase,
  • A work in EFT on the fear of falling in general,
  • One targeted on a specific fear expressed by the participant,
  • And a positive sequence of recovery of trust.

Thanks to a virtual reality headset, seniors are immersed in immersive and benevolent environments, while following guided and reassuring support.

Promising clinical results

A clinical pre-study conducted on a cohort of 40 people revealed very encouraging results:

  • Up to 50 % reduction in the dominant fear of falling,
  • An average drop of 8.5 % of the fear of overall ,
  • 70 % of satisfied participants , and 80 % ready to recommend the program .

Caregivers' returns are also positive: easy immersion, visible appeasement of participants, and improvement of the caregiver-patient relationship during sessions.

A human and adaptable approach

At the heart of Emochute, there is the desire to offer a non -drug alternative to restore confidence, autonomy and serenity to the elderly. The EFT, although sometimes overlooked, has proven to be effective in defusing post-traumatic stress. Virtual reality offers a reassuring and stimulating framework.

The program is now deployed in many establishments thanks to the support of partners such as Klesia , with full support (training, follow -up, tools
